I adore Oprah! She does so many good things and the biggest one so far is the Child Predator Watch List. She is going after these horrible people with a vengeance. I don’t know many people that will give up 100 thousand dollars to protect a pedophile. Yup- 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS if your information leads to the capture of one of the people on her list.
I have very strong opinions when it comes to child molesters. I do not believe that they can be rehabilitated and should NEVER be allowed out of prison. People that commit these crimes have crossed a line that I don’t think they can ever go back over. I don’t believe in the death penalty but I have a very big problem with my tax dollars supporting them for years and years. I have never been to prison so I can not say how bad it is…but if these people go to prison-get out –then do the same things all over again-it’s either not that bad or these people can not be part of normal society. I have no real idea what we should do them…drop em off on an island to fend for themselves…use them for drug/cosmetic testing instead of animals. I bet using human subjects we could find cures much quicker…maybe even make them living organ donors. At least they could begin to make positive contributions to society. I know this sounds heartless, but (and there’s always a but) these people could prey on your child, your sister, wife, mother, brother, husband. Do you think being humane crosses into their minds when they do the awful things they do? It all just makes me not want to leave the house, esp. with my boys. It just scares the crap out of me that a child predator could/can/is allowed to live on the same street/neighborhood/city as my family. It just doesn’t seem right-like our justice system is failing us. Go check out Oprah’s list there are pictures and profiles. She also gives lots of helpful information for protecting your children, including this site Family Watchdog-that gives you a map of all the sex offenders in your area. Complete with addresses and pictures. For someone like me who walks a lot a lone with the boys, knowing what areas to avoid or be aware is helpful.
