Today was Lennox’s 7th birthday. He woke up to a birthday banner and house full of balloons.

Then filled his birthday boy tummy with homemade chocolate chip belgian waffles, along with a happy birthday serenade.

Full tummy and extremely excited he went off to share part of his birthday with his teacher and classmates. As far as I can tell he got lots of birthday well wishes and came home with a personalized crown. After school we relaxed with some video games and waited patiently (haha not really) for Daddy so he could open presents. Lennox ripped through his gifts and we headed out for a birthday dinner and special dessert. Johnny Rockets was his choice and a good time was had by all…

I don’t think I’ve seen them eat so much a in awhile, but we weren’t done! We walked across the parking lot to a new frozen yogurt place called Yogofina.

Awesome kid friendly place, complete with kiddie tables and chairs (Ikea) and Ratatouille playing on a flat screen. Oh and the wall of about a billion toppings was pretty great too! All and all I think Lennox had a good and memorable birthday. It’s not over yet either, Grandma & Grandpa are coming up and Saturday we’re having a party. Not bad for turning 7 right?!

Sevens years of being a mom, feels like a life time in the blink of an eye. I’ve learned and changed so much. I am always overwhelmed when I stop to look at him, really look at him. I see how much he’s grown, how smart and capable he is. It blows my mind, and makes my heart swell and break all at once.

Lennox I am so proud of you, so proud to call you son. I am truly blessed to be in in your life, and love you more than I will ever be able to show or explain.
Happy Birthday
Love Mom

Ok lets start with 10 years…almost 10 years ago I gave into the strong voice that called me west. There was something waiting for me in California. I didn’t know what but I knew that it was where I needed to be. My life was waiting. I drove three thousand miles to share an apartment with a guy I never met in person. I waited tables, bartended and sold clothes to survive. As the growl in my tummy got louder the voice that called me here got softer. It became a whisper that I fought to hear.

Then I got a good job, no more selling clothes to quiet the growling tummy. It took me 4 hours every day to get to this good job from the apartment I shared with a guy I had never met in person. Four hours every day got old and expensive fast. So with shaky legs I cut that commute to 15 minutes with a giant leap into the city. A big city, and an apartment with two guys I didn’t know. (don’t know what it is with guy roommates). Everything quickly fell into place, good job, full tummy, comfy place to lay my head close to good job.

Then my life became perfect. I met Daniel, and he introduced me to Evan. Ahhh Evan, charming, handsome, striking blue eyes. There’s some lyrics from a song called 10,000 Things by Jason Mraz that…

“Well I’ve seen a thousand things in one place
But I stopped my counting when I saw your face
Erasing memory I feel as though I’ve never seen a face before
Until I saw your eyes smiling back at me through my tears
I’ve been counting all these years
Now suddenly the thousand things I’ve seen were
Nothing more than dreams of you and me”

Yeah the moment was pretty much like that. He took me to a beautiful spot and asked me to be his wife not long after this first meeting. I bet you can guess that I said yes, so here we are. 9 years, many adventures, big moves, little moves, some pets, and craziest of all – 4 kids later we are celebrating the anniversary of “when ya know ya know”. He is the love of my life, he was before I met him. God made him for me and everything I did, every decision bad and good lead me here.

That strong voice I heard almost 10 years ago wasn’t calling me west, it was calling me to Ev. I think if we hadn’t met when we did, it would have happened eventually. We would have found each other. I’ve said it many times before…I am truly blessed to have the life I do and to share it with the man I do. I will spend the rest of this life and next making sure he always knows just how much I love him, how much he is appreciated.

Happy Anniversary Evan
Here’s to a wonderful 9 years and many many more!

A few weeks ago we had an end of the season party for my son’s T-ball team. I planned the party and chose a local park as our venue. The downside is I had to hang out with our tables till everyone got there…the upside is the park is great. I had no idea how nice it really was, and packed full of people for an early Sunday morning. It’s calm, very peaceful. Instead of dreading this time spent “hanging out” I enjoyed it. I set up the tables, read my bible, and got to catch up on some writing. Right across from me is a group of elderly Asians who have been doing what I can only describe as tai chi aerobics. They are doing it to music; their movements are quick but very fluid and graceful. They did for at least 3 hours. It’s beautiful and inspiring to watch. Not something I would expect to see here in my little local park. I understand why as a culture they live so long, seems like their health priorities are right in order.
We didn’t miss a step going from one child to two. Aidan just fell right into his place. He is an amazing little man, loving and brave. I am so proud of him and so proud to be his mom. The last five years have gone by very fast but have been blessed and extremely happy! I love you Aidan!!!

I realized something the other day…Evan & I are our children’s first teachers. Ok so I didn’t realize that…but I did realize that the teaching goes beyond the lessons we intentional give. They are learning from us 24 hours a day 7 days week. Every waking moment they are watching and taking in. Which unfortunately leads to some bad lessons, and don’t mean like they were punished for disobeying, nothing like that. I mean I am guilty of unintentionally teaching bad behaviors. Maybe some of my reactions were given before thinking. If I am rude to the people around me, they will be rude. If I am close minded, negative, and judgmental, they will be too. If I always act without ever considering the consequences, they will to. I am not perfect, but I think now that I realize it, I will work harder to be better. Being conscious of these things is so important, because we never stop teaching. We continue to teach them long after they are grown, and I really want the majority of my lessons to be good. I want to give all the tools they need to be successful. One very important one is holding myself to a higher standard, so they will grow up respecting my example and decisions. They will feel secure in me as a resource. I also think for every lesson we teach them, they teach us two or three…always learning!
